In the timequalification, 4 people usually start at the same time, where the 8 best times meet in the semi-finals. In semi-final 1, the runners who placed 1st, 4th, 5th and 8th in the time qualification meet. In semi-final 2, the runners who placed 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th in the time qualification meet. The first and second place from both semi-final heats go to the final.
I tidskvalet startar som regel fyra personer samtidigt, där de 8 bästa tiderna för möts i semifinal. I semifinal 1 möts de löpare som placerade sig som 1:a, 4:a, 5:a och 8:a i tidskvalet. I semifinal 2 möts de löpare som placerade sig som 2:a, 3:a, 6:a och 7:a i tidskvalet. Till final går ettan och tvåan från de båda semifinalheaten.
